A word from Ginger, the 'Beetlejuice' costume creator:
My 7yr old is obsessed with classic movies and loves to family theme off of them. This year after seeing Beeltejuice he HAD to be Beetlejuice for Halloween. My 2yr old daughter was Lydia, my husband was the shrunken head and I was Miss Argentina, the receptionist in the netherworld. I took my son's dress suit and added stripes using white gaffing tape. I used a cheap plastic Halloween skull and sculpted the shrunken head which I then attached to the top of a knit cap. To give him shoulders, I also attached hangers on each side of the hat. We used a sheer red fabric so that he could see once the oversized shirt was placed on top. My costume was made by dying a long sleeve leotard green. I got an old homecoming dress and covered it with lace and bought a pair of butterfly wings to make the cape. I took off the wings fabric and reshaped the wire to make the collar of the cape and then added red glitter fabric, much to my husband's chagrin since the glitter has invaded our house! I screen printed the book cover onto my daughter's trick or treat bag. To continue her Lydia look, we accessories with a toy camera that I covered in black electric tape to give it the vintage Polaroid look. I also painted the bangs on her face since she is too young to leave her hair alone if I were to spike them. My sons costume cost aprox 15.00 (not including suit cost), my daughter's cost aprox. 10, my husband's shrunken head, luckily a craft store was going out of business, cost $20, mine was the most expensive, at $30.
