Cousin Itt Costume

My six year old son is wearing a homemade Cousin It costume. He saw the movie for the first time recently and loved Cousin It. When I searched for a Cousin It costume to buy, I was shocked to see prices from $400 up to $900. I set out to make my son one for less than $50. In fact we came in right at $45. I purchased four long wigs off eBay (cheap synthetic hair wigs), then I went to my local thrift shop and bought a sheer tan curtain and a full brown skirt. I picked up a cheap bowler hat from a party store and used a pair of black sunglasses we already had. Curtain was draped over my sons head and cut off all the way around, by his feet. The top two wigs are turned in against each other, so theat the long hair hangs all the way around the head. Then using thread I tacked these two wigs down to the curtain. The other two wigs, I separated so that I could spread it out in eight different sections. I made sure that the bottom of the lower row of hair was hanging at his feet. Now since I was saving money, I had only bought four wigs, instead of six to fully cover it. This is where I cut up the brown skirt I had bought for only $2 and pieces it in between the layers of hair at the top to make it look more full. I let the pieces hang in gathered sections, instead of pulling the fabric tight across the bottom curtain. The bottom layer was even easier. The skirt I had bought had a built in slip. After using the top fabric for the top of the outfit, I simply slid the slip down under bottom layer of hair and. It It off at the floor, so everything would be the same length. All of the hair and brown fabric were tacked on by hand with brown thread. It was a bit warm for my son to wear, so to assist him with getting some more air to his face, I cut out the curtain that was covering his face, so in this area he only had the hair covering him. This also helped with being able to put the sunglasses on over his ears.
