Merry Old Fans of Oz Costume

When our 8-year-old daughter, Ally, decided that she wanted to be Dorothy for Halloween, the rest of our family joined in and decided to bring Oz to "our own backyard." After approximately 50 hours of construction including Dorothy's house (constructed out of luan with a frame made out of 2x4s), which had landed on the Wicked Witch of the East (as seen by her legs and ruby slippers extending from the underneath of the house), creation and painting of the Yellow Brick Road on both material and luan, creation of a glittering, lighted Oz from PVC pipe, the lighted flower garden that Dorothy first finds herself in when she arrives in Oz, and the hand-painted rainbow (made of luan with clouds made from decoration cob-webs wrapped in white tulle), our Oz golf cart was complete. Adorable 2-year-old Scarecrow, Connor, and 3-year-old Cowardly Lion, Cameron, as well as Glinda (Mom) and Tin Man (Dad) accompanied Dorothy and a traveling Oz through the neighborhood. With lights flashing and the Wizard of Oz soundtrack playing for all to hear, our family Halloween costume/theme was so much fun and a hit with both the kids and adults in the neighborhood! The actual five "human costumes" cost approximately $100 total, and the "golf cart costume" cost approximately $225 to $250 all in. Halloween 2016 in the "Merry Old Land of Oz" was a night that we will never forget!
