This homemade costume for boys entered our 2016 Halloween Costume Contest.

A word from Matt, the 'Nerf Dart' costume creator:

My son is a Nerf Nut and he couldn't decide what he wanted to be. So i blurted out Nerf Dart before i could really think through how to do it. Fortunately i'm a model maker by profession so we quickly came up with a plan.
-I found an orange candy bowl that was bout 3ft in diameter.
-Found some 1" thick by 24" wide and 6' long rolls of foam (bought 2 rolls.
-Cut the rolls down based on the circumference of the bowl.
-Hot glued the 2 sections together.
-Cut out the face and arm holes
-Spray adhesived the blue fabric on.

Can you tell me where you found the bowl from?
Thank you

Thank you for the compliments!
You are correct, it's foam wrapped in blue fabric. No, i did not put a seam in the back for entry. I knew that with the foam being rolled like that it would want to burst the seam constantly. Plus, it wouldn't stay perfectly round if you did that as well. Hence the reason as well that i staggered the foam joint away from the fabric seam to add more rigidity. It was really easy for him to get in/out of it. Just put his arms straight up and i slid it over him.

If your in cold climates it'll keep them nice and warm as well !!

The bowl came from Wal-Mart. We happend to be going through the halloween section and i spotted it. Supposed to be a giant candy bowl.

How did you attach the bowl to the foam?

Where did you find the blue foam?

The bowl was attached with Velcro so it could be removed if needed.

It's standard white foam wrapped with blue fabric that was adhered with spray glue.

Will you sell me this costume? My husband and I stink at DIY

Letters are cut out and applied with spray adhesive.

The foam was bought at hobby lobby.

Yes, I would be willing to sell the costume. Provide your email and I'll reach out to you.
