This homemade costume for couples entered our 2016 Halloween Costume Contest.
A word from Suzanne, the 'Statue of Liberty' costume creator:
It was my girlfriend's idea to dress up as the Statue of Liberty. It was my idea to dress up as a matching pair. The gown and crown were bought and used to colour match the body paint. The torch as handmade from a slender sparkling water bottle and added decorative cardboard trim to make it elegant looking. The fire was constructed from yellow and orange tissue paper with a battery operated tea-light in the centre to light it up. The books were styrofoam tombstones from the dollar store that we painted with colour-matched wall paint from the hardware. Our flipflops were also painted in the wall paint. The face paint was a homemade mixture of white, green, and blue face paint from the Halloween Store. We added a little cornstarch to make it thicker. Our arms and feet were white face paint mixed with a little bit of the wall paint (not recommended but we took the chance anyway!). Thankfully the paint came off cleanly with water. Phhew!
