A word from Cindi, the 'Headless Horseman' costume creator:
My five year grandson decided a year ago he wanted to be the headless horseman for 2015 halloween. Horse was formed by using a life size fiberglass deer target for the body shape. The deer (body) target was wrapped in celephane then covered with paper mache. The head was formed with rolled newspaper and paper mache. The paper mache body was removed from the deer target and the head was then attached using tape and paper mache. A hole was cut in the top center of the body so my grandson could step into the horse. A sweatshirt that had been slit up the back was attached using nuts and bolts to the inside of the opening. So when my grandson stepped into the form it pulled up and his arms would go through the sleeves. So it was like a sweatshirt with a horse body attached. We first tried straps but they hurt his shoulders. We painted the horse black, added a fabric skirting, large doll eyes, eyelashes, hair extensions for the mane and tail. We added roping for a horse bit. His costume was a knitted orange cap and a scary pumpkin mask, he wore a black shield from the dollar store, a black fabric cape, black girls boots and black gloves.
