Hi-Hat Costume

This costume was inspired by Michel Gondry's first music video with Beck. There's a 3 second scene where a drum man walks through the room. I was always so fixated on that one little scene and character throughout my teenage and college years. I always thought it would be so cool to make my own version and this year I finally did!
The major difference between mine and his is that I designed it move around quickly and dance, as opposed to being so large that I could barely walk. It's still a little cumbersome, but the concealed backpacking frame inside the bass drum/torso disperses the weight quite well. Although the rims, lugs and other drum parts are real, the drums themselves are made out of plastic instead of wood in order to be lightweight.
It's not playable, which I've been asked more than once. The intention is to be big, absurd, energetic and bring a surprising joy to those who encounter Hi-Hat and that's been the most common reaction so far.
