A word from Clarissa, the 'Hippie Riding In Style' costume creator:
This is my daughter Skarlett River. She is a hippie riding in a Volkswagon microbus. We were trying to figure out what we could be for Halloween using what we already had because we were on a tight budget this month. We looked up diy costumes online and had seen a stroller turned into an airplane. That was when we decided we would be a family of hippes and turn out daughters stroller into a vw bus! For her costume, we used a onesie that we had tye dyed for her babyshower, jeans, mocassins, a head band, and we actually made her vest out of an old tan muscle shirt of mine. We didn't have to buy a single thing for her costume. For her microbus we used a box that we had on hand and we chose red because we also had red paint left over from another craft. We cut the box to size and drew windows and the vw emblem. For the bumper we used a piece of the box that we had cut off and again used paint we had on hand. We traced the headlights and pasted glitter paper on them to make them shiny and also used glitter paper on the vw emblem. For her goodie bag we used a bugee cord to attach a metal bucket to the bumper. For the the dye inside we used an old hippie skirt of mine and simply taped it to the inside of the box. We didn't have to spend a single cent to make her costume or ours. We wore tyedye shirts from a festival we went to a few years back and faded jeans. (Not pictured) When we went trick or treating everyone thought it was such a clever idea! It really was a hit, especially with the older generations!
