A word from Janet, the 'Hocus Pocus' costume creator:
Hocus Pocus has always been a favorite movie for our family. So, this year we decided it would be perfect for Halloween. Except for the wigs and the snake belt, everything is handmade by us with amazing thrift store finds. Winifred's jacket (me)is made from a $4.00 tablecloth, and then I hand painted the symbols with gold fabric paint. Her inside dress, from an old dress I had. For book, I looked at tutorial on the internet and got great ideas. I used an old encyclopedia I had laying around and hollowed the inside so it would not be heavy. The texture is Modge Podge with tissue paper for the skin-like look. The silver snakes and made with clay that bakes in the oven and painted with silver shiny paint for the desired look. The rest is craft paint until I got the color closest to the book from the movie. For Sarah, my niece, is made from skirts I purchased from the thrift store and pieced together. Mary (my sister) is also made from a plaid bed sheet, her apron from a curtain I no longer used, etc. Billy Butcherson, my mom, is made from a white shirt that I tore the sleeves off, and the ripped them for a desired worn look. I hot glued the pieces to the front of the shirt, stained them with coffee grounds, and hot glued spiders. Overall, I'm very happy that we were able to accomplish there costumes by reusing and recycling items we already had. Happy Halloween everyone!
