A word from Dorian, the 'Hurricane Dorian' costume creator:
I’m wearing the costume. The idea came almost immediately, bc Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday, and I’ve never heard my name so many times then when Hurricane Dorian was tearing thru the Bahamas, up the East coast, and even reaching Canada?! I can’t even tell you how many jokes I had heard lol I started by Googling Hurricane Halloween costume... initially, I was going to do the Weather Reporter idea with wind blown hair, leaves in my hair, and newspaper stuck to me... perhaps even a broken fence stuck to me. Then, I came across an image of a beautiful headpiece, to look like a storm cloud and rain, made out of tulle, and beads as raindrops, popped up, and the costume snowballed from there! Making the headpiece actually turned out to be very therapeutic, I truly enjoyed it. I ended up sewing a foam board to a wreath frame, gluing both onto an old hat, and hand-sewed the clouds out of grey, black and white tulle, then glued them onto the foam board... top and underneath!! Lots of tape, fabric glue, hot glue, thread and tulle...like tulle for days!! I then came across my makeup inspiration, and even though I’m a makeup artist, I knew exactly who to call to execute the makeup and bring my whole visual to fruition! I then ordered the T-shirt of the Hurricane satellite image and even LED lights for the lightening, which unfortunately I completely forgot to ask a friend to take a video of that in action?! Then, to complete the costume, one of my best friend’s dressed up as my weather reporter. So. Much. Fun!
