Inspector Gadget Costume

I scoured the goodwill store every chance I got for the right coat to appear and finally, it did! I even got the hat there. The white button down shirt was from there as well and the pants were already in my closet. I purchased the blue tie online at a cheap price for another project that has yet to see the light of day. The black gloves, wig and magnifying glass were in my costume stash.

The hardest part of the costume was the hat, of course. I purchased the rotating light on line and used some craft stuffing to fill red rubber gloves I bought at the dollar store. A bent hanger or two gave some armature and support to the gloves. I sewed them tucked under the band and with some tack stitches along the length of the exposed wire. I sewed all but one section of a backwards baseball cap into the hat to fit it on my head better and keep it in place (it was a more secure fit than the hat alone. I glued a metal disk onto the bottom of the rotating light and the unsewn section of the two hats allowed me to slip a strong magnet between them. I placed the light on the top of the outer had and perfect hold in place solution that could be taken off for battery replacement and turning the light on and off etc.

I printed out an Inspector Gadget 'ID' card and found a cool magnifying glass with alligator clips contraption at the tool store and a police badge and holder at the costume store.
