Jolly Holiday with Mary Poppins & Bert Costume

I am wearing the Mary Poppins costume, my 2 yr old son is wearing the Bert costume and my husband is in the penguin costume. My inspiration was the “Jolly Holiday” scene from Mary Poppins with Mary, Bert and the dancing penguins. We’re huge Disney fans so this was perfect for us. The penguin costume was borrowed but I made the Bert & Mary costumes. For Mary: I found the white shirt at Goodwill and added the red ribbons. The skirt is actually a white, round tablecloth with a plastic lace white tablecloth on top of it and again, I added the red ribbon. The hat came from Dollar Tree. I painted it white and added the tulle. The sash is just red fabric that I painted lines on. I also made a “hoop skirt” underneath with a belt, fishing line and a hula hoop. Bert’s costume was a white shirt and white pants - both from Goodwill. The jacket was a brown striped jacket I found at a resale shop and I made the lines with colored masking tape all over. The hat is made of cardboard and more masking tape. The bow tie was made with blue ribbon. No sewing on either costume and a total of less than $20! We had a blast and got a ton of compliments!
