Kentucky Derby Costume

It started with our retired racing greyhounds being the race horses. Their saddles and bridles were sewn with a faux leather and keychain loops. I bought plastic pony stirrups from Walmart (of all places), and made a "run for roses" of Dollar Tree flowers plucked apart and bent through a cardboard drape. I then padded it with felt and added chest straps. The Jockey costume was made by gluing the same stretchy green fabric over the helmet, and cutting "goggles" out a healthcare face shield. The "boots" are actually black socks with black ankle boots. Mom and dad were dressed to the nine in their own clothes with some custom, matching flower flare.
