A word from Michelle, the 'Labyrinth' costume creator:

We did a family Labyrinth movie theme. In top left is my husband as Ludo. This costume was bought online. Top right is my brother as Jareth the goblin king. I bought a wig, grey leggings and black boots. His shirt is a blouse I altered to add frills. I made his vest with black vinyl fabric. His costume cost about $50.

I am wearing the Fiery costume on the left. I bought brown furry fabric from Walmart and painted it different shades of red, orange and white. The base of the mask is made from cardboard, duct tape and paper mache. I painted it and then attached more fur to surround the head and attached cardboard ears. My favorite part was making the teeth from masking tape and hot glueing them in the mouth.

Hoggle was challenge and worn by my friend Josh. I formed the mold for the mask on a bouncy ball using air dry clay. I let it dry a couple of days and then covered with Vaseline. I used worbla for the first time and heated it on the clay mold. I formed the ears separately and then attached them by heating the worbla. I made his cap from vinyl and hot glued it to the worbla mask. I used white fur fabric for the hair and brown fur fabric for the eyebrows. His vest was made with maroon vinyl and I painted the pattern based off photos from movie. The shirt and pants were store bought. His costume cost about $70. The worbla was the majority of the cost.

My friend Brie made the Sarah costume buying a patterned vest, white shirt and jeans.

Lower left is my nephew. He is a goblin nipper guard. He is wearing armor bought from goodwill. I altered his helmet by adding 3 spikes made from foam, painted and added via hot glue. On his staff we attached a dinosaur fingerling that look a lot like the nippers from the movie. His arm shields were from another costume and painted silver. His costume cost about $15.

Lower middle is my daughter as Sir Didymus. I made to mask using cardboard to shape as a terrier. I covered it in fur and painted the fur nutmeg brown. I shaved the fur on the snout to create shorter fur and attached white yarn to create the long white strands (added white paint to stiffen them a bit). I sewed pants with the fur fabric. I created her vest with red velvet fabric and glued ribbon to create the pattern. Her tail is made of coat hangers straightened and then covered with white yarn which I brushed out to fluff up. The coat hanger ends were attached to cardboard. I attached elastic so she could attach the tail separately. It cost about $40.

In the lower left is my youngest daughter dressed as the worm from the movie. I loved how her costume came out. I cut out a pattern from blue and white fabric to create the back piece. I sewed one side together and then sewed channels and filled with fluff to create the mounded segments. I created a shorter front piece using the same method with white fabric. I create blue tassels with yarn and attached to each segment. I used Velcro to create straps to attach front a back pieces. I cut a piece of red fabric for the scarf. I covered a cap with blue velvet for the cap and created her hair with blue feather. Her mask is a cheap foam one I painted to look like the worm character. Her costume cost was about$15.
