A word from Michael, the 'Lego Pirate' costume creator:
This lego pirate was inspired by my childhood toys. I recreated the pirate using multiple objects including a cardboard body suit overlaid with carefully spray painted white poster board. The shoulders had tassels about the edges secured with gorilla glue. The hands are made of cut beer coozies with wires fed through them for rigidity. The head is a cardboard tube used to pour concrete pillars and it was secured on the inside for comfort fit using foam padding. The eyes and mouth were mesh inlay to see out of the costume. The legs were made of wire frames - black leg was covered with XXL spandex and secured with fabric glue and the left was covered in contact paper and had a bowl on the base to cover the foot. The sword was a modified he-man foam sword and the hat was made using contact fabric, a wire frame and shiny cloth sewn about the frame. All together it took around 60 hours to create.... but the final result is well worth it!
