A word from Natasha, the 'Light Up Unicorns' costume creator:
My daughters decided to be unicorns for Halloween. The crocheted hat pattern was found on youcanmakethis.com, so the color choices are endless. My girls wanted to follow the color schemes from their favorite My Little Ponies -- with some custom changes. The shirts and shorts are also from online patterns from danamadeit.com -- simply a peplum shirt and shorts, but I used faux fur commonly found at Joann Fabrics. I sprayed the furry fabric with glitter spray for some extra sparkle and also sewed on irridecent stars with a small seed bead in the center, sort of randomly. The peplum top has instructions for a lining, so I buried tiny LED lights in between the lining and the faux fur. They are battery operated and stitched in place so that they don't shift or move within the two layers. The hoof covers are made from the same faux fur, I sketched a simple pattern and then played with it until I got the right shape and size for my girls. I added a tutu for extra girly fluff (who doesn't love a tutu?). The matching tails are clip on 'pony tails' that you can find on ebay. I attached a sort of 'lip' to the upper band of the shorts so that the claw clips would have something to grasp on to. My girls loved their costumes and I enjoyed creating them.
