A word from Therese, the 'Little Peppers' costume creator:
I made these costumes for my sons. I call them 'My Little Peppers' My son, Steve, was Paul,(in blue) and Matthew was George (in red). The idea started when I found two Sgt. Pepper arm patches on eBay. I just had to make costumes to match! To recreate the Sgt. Pepper look, I used the 2004 McCalls 'Matrix' pattern 4546. The coats and pants were made from flannel backed satin. I modified the coats to a shorter length for both, adding a scalloped hem for the red coat, to match 'George' on the album cover. I reviewed many pictures of The Beatles in their grand costumes to get all the details right. The back of Paul's costume is featured on the back of the album which I copied. I made my own design for the back of the George costume. Lots of trim, ribbons, pom-poms and buttons. Also bought hot pink and gold curtain rope for the trims, olive green and hot pink ribbon for the stripes down the pants, and the epaulets were crafted from cereal boxes, covered wit the matching satin, edged with black and white satin rope trim and white fringe. For a final touch, I let the boys hair grow out for a few months before so they'd have 'Beatle cuts'. One of my happiest creations!
