A word from Julia, the 'Little Witch' costume creator:
This costume was made by me and is worn by my daughter Valerie. I also made the hat and wand. I was inspired to make it when I found the super cute orange and white chevron patterned fabric and needed a reason to buy it.
Fabric for dress and dress lining
Trim
Black felt
Beads/wire/tulle
1/4" dowel
Polyfill
Ribbon
The dress cost about $10 and is made out of materials I bought at Walmart. I used a pattern for a peasant dress and cut out the center of the front bodice piece and added the sequined trim.
The hat is made from felt. The top piece is stuffed with filler and hot glued to the brim. I added the wire and tulle. A hair clip is attached to the bottom of the brim so it can be clipped into your hair.
For the wand wrap a wooden dowel in ribbon (I used orange, black and lace ribbon). Hot glue the end of the ribbons to the top of the dowel. . This will be covered up by the felt bat so don't worry if it doesn't look perfect. (Hot glue some additional ribbons now if you want them to hang down.) I drew out my own template for the bat, cut out two bat shapes in black felt and hand sewed the two pieces together using the blanket stitch (stuff the bat before completing the sewing around the bat). Then hot glue the bat onto the wand.
