A word from Rachel, the 'Mad Hatter Tea Party' costume creator:
This year my son wanted to be the mad hatter at the tea party, like every year I make his costume and I try to incorporate his wheel chair in it. The mad hatter costume is made with fabric I had laying around the house I am a craft artist so people are always giving me old clothes, fabric, blankets, sheets and ext. that they dont need any more, witch means I usually have plenty of supplies and dont have to spend much. The sash is made up of 12 spools of thread I use for sowing, the hat is an old hat that I covered with fabric, and ribbon, the hat pins are made of old paint brushes cut to the right size and painted and top of with old peaces of jewelry, the door mouse sitting on his hat is made out of fabric from an old stuffed animal and old dress, then I hand painted the face. The march hare and white rabbit are made of fabric from old clothes and pillows and blankets. Their faces are hand painted, the tea party tables is made from card board and old dresses, the tea set Is partly an old tea set I repainted, and partly made from plastic containers hot glue and paint, the tea party treats are made from clay and hot glue and painted, his chair is his wheel chair covered with a blanket and the back drop hanging from his wheel chair is made from an old sheet and hand painted, it costed under 15 bucks for the supply's I had to buy because I didn't have then on hand. So it was very inexpensive but it did take a long time to make luckly my son helped me out were every he could. It was a big hit with family and friends, and had a lot of people kept coming up to us on Halloween and saying all kinds of nice things especially when they found out we made the costume.
