A word from Trisha, the 'Maleficent' costume creator:
I started this costume with a simple purple and black lace up dress. I bought glittery purple fabric and attached to the back and cut it at an angle to bring back up and attach to the sleeves. I had an old black witch hat with a feather brim that I deconstructed and used to make a high collar. I bought a purple and black feather boa and sewed it behind the nape to drape in the back. For the headpiece, I bought 2 styrafoam cones and cut them down by half. Then bought 2 kids curved pirate swords from dollar tree. I glued each sword into the foam, then wrapped with foil shaping into a point. I wrapped that in black tape and then secured the "horns" to a head band to which I had hot glued a couple of hair combs to. I bought a black "burnout" design fabric and wrapped it around the horns and head band.
Sprayed it with glitter craft spray. I took a long piece of the black fabric and wrapped it around the horns base and my head like a turbin. The staff is a bamboo tiki torch that I painted and used rope caulking to make vines. I bought a multi colored light from dollar tree and put it inside a clear plastic Christmas ornament that I had sprayed with glitter spray and hot glued it into the top of the tiki torch. I cut a hole in the torch to access the on off button for the light. Then glued a crow on top of the ball. It came off extremely well and everyone was amazed, especially since with my horns, I couldn't drive or enter rooms without ducking, lol.
