A word from Elena, the 'Medusa holding Head of Statue' costume creator:
Hi I知 Elena, I知 17 anda senior in high school. I知 wearing the costume (I知 the statue head), and my idea came from my love of classic monsters. I originally sculpted the head and it looked like so many things like it could be a lake monster or a bat or a witch, so I decided on making it into Medusa so I went with it and created my costume. I loved the headless illusion and wanted to try my hand at making one. I used paper mache clay to sculpt the head and the snakes using aluminum foil and wire. I created the bust by using that same clay receptive over a mold of my chest which I cheaply made by wrapping myself up with cellophane and then masking tape around my chest and arms. Then I cut myself out and taped it back up, stuffed it, sealed it and covered it in the paper mache clay. The dress I made using a long cheap gown from the goodwill and I cut a hole for my head and arms (which I hid as bottom break the illusion but to still have access to my arms) and sewed extra fabric and a bedsheet to create the puffy skirt. I loved making this costume and I love to sculpt, I知 sad covid has made Halloween a little less spectacular but I was still happy to have made my costume.
