A word from Melissa, the 'Medusa with Snake Body' costume creator:
The costume is being worn by my daughter. I few years back i had made a home made costume for my son and it came out really good. I didnt even think i had that talent plus i had fun making it. My daughter asked if i would make a scary costume for her, at the time she was doing home work on Greek mythology. I suggested Medusa with a snake body and a helmet with snakes that really move. She was supper excited so i decided to build it. I started with a frame using eva foam that i bought from Harbor Freight. Once i had the right measurement i used foamy (a thinner version of eva foam) to make the snake body. I used 3"x18" peaces to make the snake body. i decided to make it a rattle snake and added a rattler that really rattles with an on and off switch. to get the scales just right i made a tam pleat of one scale traced each scale one by one. The armor was kind of plain so a added a few snake to make it stand out more. The final peace was the helmet with the moving snakes. After making the helmet i made 6 snakes with the foamy. I added 6 small electric motor and a battery right in the middle of the snakes. At first the battery was not strong enough to move all 6 snakes. After 2 days of trouble shooting the wiring i decided to put 2 switches so that 3 snakes move with the push of one switch and the other 3 when u let go.
