A word from Heather, the 'Edward Scissorhands' costume creator:
My son Jude, age 4 as Edward Scissorhands. He enjoys being real life characters, as opposed to cartoon characters. He watched the movie around Xmas time, before halloween of the NEXT year and he saw the character. Chose it. And stuck with it. So here we go!
I begged and pleaded all of my friends and family for 90's fashion belts. You know, the sweet ones with the grommets. I purchased a black turtle neck and black leggings. Using the belts I made a harness and other embellishments on the costume. Bel try s cimoleySame with a pair of boots. I spray painted them black and glued rings and straps on them. As for the scissors. We bought very light balsam wood strips for the blades and sprayed them with metallic paint. The handles were traced and cut from cardboard and wrapped with black duct tape. The tape worked to fashion the blades to the handles and then the scissors to simple winter gloves. With his makeup complete and his hair sprayed and pinned up (all his own hair btw. ). He was complete. $18 and about 12hrs of labor, 4 hours of hunting and shopping.
