This homemade costume for girls entered our 2012 Halloween Costume Contest.
A word from Carrie, the 'Sally Skellington' costume creator:
My daughter, Jailyn (5) loves The Nightmare Before Christmas movie (as I did as a child!)
We searched all over for an "acceptable" replica of sweet Sally Stitches and decided to take on the project together after coming up empty online!
I made a dress pattern from one of her older dresses and sketching from movie still photographs. Jailyn picked out the fabrics from JoAnns, to put our own spin on the dress. I hand sewed piece by piece and used an embroidery needle and black yarn to make the obvious stitching. Her wig was a little tricky-- we used an animal helmet from Micheals, foam sheets and lots and lots of burnt red yarn (hand laid and glued in place!)
Her makeup was a breeze as we again used movie stills to make it just right!
She was the ONLY Sally waking the streets of our neighborhood this Halloween. She was so excited to be so unique and the smile on her face before we left to Trick or Treat was thanks enough!
