The Lego Movie Family Costume

Every year our family picks a theme for our costumes. We have 10 people in our group, which includes, my dad, my sister and brother in law, their 3 kids- all girls, myself and my husband and our 2 kids- one boy, one girl. This year we voted on a theme and unanimously picked the Lego movie. All of our costumes are homemade and it took us about a week to complete them. The bodies are made from either moving boxes or tri-fold poster displays depending on the size. We spray painted the cardboard bodies and then decorated them with either colored duct tape or paint to get the designs. Wonderwoman and Batman bodies are actually nightgowns we purchased and stretched out over the boxes. The lego heads for most of the costumes were made from Cheetos containers spray painted yellow and cut open on one end. Emmet and Wyldstyle heads are small buckets purchased at the dollar store and covered with yellow foam. Wyldstyle's hair is a wig we styled and painted a pink and blue stripe into. Wonderwoman also has a wig for hair. Benny the Space guy has a helmet made out of foam and spray painted blue. These costumes were easy and cheaper to make and only used the basic things- cardboard, felt, foam, hot glue, spraypaint and regular paint. We love doing a group theme for our costumes and the people in the neighborhood can't wait to see us each year.
