A word from Krysta, the 'Ninjago Lloyd and Master Wu' costume creator:
My seven year old son wanted to do a homemade costume, so after finding the right images and dimensions, I started to make Lloyd. The bulk of the body is cardboard with fleece details and a painted dragon. the heads base is made for a small round bathroom trashcan. I then spray foamed and carved the details of the rounded head, scarf above the eyes, nose and mouth covering. after they all dried, expanded and were carved, I covered everything in black or green fleece. I cut out the eye shape using a box cutter and then added plastic mesh that I spray painted Lego yellow. I also drew on the eyes and details in sharpie. the pants were made out of fleece and velco'd to the body. I took the dimensions of the front bottom of the box and divided it by 2. My son tried on the costume and then I measured from the bottom of the box to the floor to get the length. I basically sewed giant rectangles together making sure to sew them so the the seem would face out to give the look of sharp, square edges. I also made a small pocket round the whole bottom hem to insert some cardboard to keep the pants straight along the bottom. Under the costume he wore a green fleece sweatshirt that matched the color of the fleece on the head. the hands were made form cardboard. C shaped with the wrist hole and painted yellow. after seeing what was starting to for for my middle son, my 9 year old wanted in too! so we decided to make master Wu. everything was basically the same except the details. master wu's facial hair for example, took many tries. I tried to make it out of spray foam and it kept hitting the body and breaking. so I decided to try to sew it! It wasn't my favorite but it worked. it was them attached with gorilla glue and left to set. The hat was just a giant cardboard box cut into a shallow cone with a small round top. I added the cap and robe details and he was ready for action.
