A word from Willow, the 'Nurse Trainee Dolly from Ratched' costume creator:
I am wearing the costume. I came up with idea after watching the show Ratched on Netflix. I loved the vintage feel so the show and the costumes are fabulous!!! The character Dolly is super interesting and I loved the blue colour for their 1940s nurse uniform, so I thought I'd go ahead and make it for Halloween. I used around 4 yards of cotton fabric just for the skirt. I used cotton fabric for the whole costume that I got from my local lens mills. I made all my own patterns from watching youtube videos, but I also winged a lot of the pattern making too. I used interfacing for the first time on this project. I used the interfacing in the top to help make the collar and hat stiff. I also put in my very first zipper into the skirt. I made the name tag out of hotglue and paint. I did my own hair and makeup to fit the time period better and match the actress from the show. I wore theatre character shoes that I had from past plays I've been in. Altogether the costume cost around $45 to make. A little over budget, but I thought it looked amazing in the end!!!! My mom helped me take photos at our local dam. This was a very big project for me and I took around 3 weeks to make it on and off while I did my University classes and worked. In the end I am super happy with the final results.
