A word from Kristy, the 'One Eyed Minion' costume creator:
I created this costume for my 3.5 year old son Jaiden Asbury. I came up with the idea for this costume because I asked my son what he wanted to be and he said a "one-eyed minion". After searching the internet for costumes and realizing the ones the stores offered looked like a regular outfit and hat I schemed up a way to make one myself. So I went to a local craft store bought 3 yards of 1/2in foam, 1.5 yards of yellow and blue fabric, a small square of silver and some tulle. I wanted to make him actually look like a minion. I cut out a circle for the eye which was a sunny d bottle, covered it in silver and covered that with tulle and dabbed brown and black paint for the eye. This is so he can see out of it. To make the head I had to figure out how to make a dome so I drew lines on a ball and cut it out for the pattern, then used it to cut out the foam. I hot glued all the edges together, added a line of foam to the bottom, and covered it with yellow fabric. To make the body I just cut arm holes on the side, covered with yellow, sewed velcro and rubber bands to the back. For the mouth I used black and white felt. The hair is black pipe cleaners. The bibs I sewed together out of the blue, I added a pocket and stich work. I velcroed the head so it wont come off. I also dyed a thermal underwear shirt yellow and bought a 1 pair of gloves. All together this project costed me 6 days and about 60 bucks. I actually got a good deal on the foam and fabric with coupons. I was skeptical if I could do it or not but I did :)
