Optimus Prime Transformer Costume

Hi, so my son wanted to win a Halloween Contest at school. This was his first year at a new school. We started researching what we could make. He is totally into transformers. So he says mom can we make Optimus prime transformer costume and actually have him transform. That is how our research began. We started researching and collecting boxes of all sizes from Publix and dollar store.

We got boxes of all sizes, empty paper towel rolls, empty toilet paper rolls and small boxes. We started cutting, putting them together until we got the finally result. It took us a month to complete this costume. We needed to shape all the boxes and glue them together and figure out how it will transform into Optimus Prime truck. After several tries we finally figured it out. Once I had it built then we needed to figure out how it would sit on his shoulders while he was standing. We used an old karate belt and hot glue it to the front and tied it to his back.

Then I started building his face mask and we had to cut and shape several cardboard boxes until we got it correct. We also made him a license plate with his initials.

After we got that then we started to paint and hand detail Optimus prime. The painting and detailing took a long time.

In order for him to transform he had to lay on the ground.

Once he arrived at school and he was parading around and he dropped to the ground and transformed and the crowd went crazy screaming. The he would get back up and continue to walk and then transform again. The crowd would go crazy. He ended up winning the contest at school. Everyone talks about his costume.
