A word from Taylor, the 'Overwatch Ana Amari' costume creator:
The costume I am wearing is of the character Ana Amari from the video game Overwatch. I love Overwatch, and I wanted to cosplay as one of its characters. I ended up choosing Ana because she seemed like a great challenge!
I made most of the pieces from EVA foam. My process for making the different armor pieces starts with purchasing some of the foam interlocking floor tiles used in workshops or children's play rooms. I will figure out the shape and measure myself so that it will be proportional to me Then, I use a craft knife to cut the piece out, and I shape it by heating it up with a heat gun. After I make any other modifications to it, I will spray 2-3 coats of PlastiDip as a base coat, 2 coats of the main color, airbrush any detail colors or shadows/highlights, then seal it with 2 coats of clear finishing spray.
I hand painted the gun because there were so many colors, but I did still use the airbrush on it for details. Also, I added a plastic tube in the barrel portion of the gun which I painted orange. I added a tea light to the end of it, so it lights up! I did the same (except blue) with the nano booster on my left forearm.
The gray hoodie and trench coat had all of their details sewn on individually. I had a family friend help me with the trench coat, and it turned out great! I fabric glued the fabric and foam pieces on the top of the hood because stitching that area would have presented too many problems.
The whole costume took between 65-70 working hours to complete, spanning over a little over 3 months. The gun took about 17 hours by itself, and the trench coat took about 13 hours. The total materials cost for this project was between $150-200.
I have worn this cosplay to a few comic cons so far, and it is a hit every time I bring it out! I especially love it when children recognize me as Ana and want to take a picture with me. I will take a normal one in character, then I will let them hold my rifle in the second one. All of them love to hold it in a picture, and I love making their day!
Thank you for bearing with me throughout this long costume information section, and thank you for considering me in this contest! I have put a lot of time and effort into this costume, and I think it accurately represents my skill level in creating costumes. I also think it is accurate to the character.
