Peacock Showgirl Costume

I made this costume for myself last year, and at the urgence of my friends, I decided to go ahead an enter it into your contest. I started this costume in August in order to have it ready by Halloween. I purchased a plain black corset and from there I began build the costume. I handed beaded a strand of variety of metallic gold, turquoise, lime green, and black seed and bugle beads to create a beautiful fringe at the bottom of the corset. I used a metallic glitter fabric paint to completely change the color of the corset to a sparkling turquoise color. Then I began to hand string hundreds of sequins together and then attached them to the corset. I also attached numerous rhinestones of the same color scheme throughout the sequin designs on the corset.

I made the feather bustle using several black feather boas to which I attached approximately 30 Peacock Eyes randomly throughout the black feathers.

For the headdress, I used to two plastic sun visors, covered them with glitter craft foam and then aligned 15-20 long stemmed Peacock Eye Feathers between the two edges of the visor's brims along with colored rooster feathers for contrast, and three Ostrich plumes to give the headdress some fullness and stature, then I glued to the two visors together along the edge and then sewed a lining connect the the visor at the bottom edges (if you take a normal visor and then move the part of the visor that normally rests against your forehead up on top of your head, the visor part will no be sticking straight up in the air and just imagine doing that with two visors that have the underneath sides facing each other) Hope that helps to explain how this was done.

I then made a mask decorate with same theme . . . more Peacock feathers, glitter paint, and rhine stones.

For the shoes, I took and old pair of pumps and placed what I called rescue tape over the entire surface of the shoe and heal and then methodically began to decorate the shoes with hundreds of different Peacock feathers, including Eye feather, crown feathers, breast feathers, back feathers, sword feathers, and neck feathers. I never knew that a Peacock had some many different looking feathers on its body until I made this costume. I have to admit the shoes were absolutely stunning.

I then made a Peacock fantail out of two 8 inch half circles of craft glitter foam and then place approximately 35 thirty inch long Peacock Eye feathers in between the two pieces of foam, following the arch of the half circle, and then glued the two pieces of foam together. I placed two metal eyelets in the foam so I could attached the fantail to my corset using the corset's cinching cords on the back side.

I also place two sword feathers on my eyebrows to further enhance my Peacock make-up. Hope you enjoy it! I wish I had a picture of me standing up, but unfortunately I don't.
