A word from Rose, the 'Predator' costume creator:
This costume piece is inspired by the classic 1987 Predator movie and it is worn by one wicked, cool 5 year old (my amazing son). It is a DIY costume made with anything & everything I could find in the house & garage. I try to make my costumes as cheap as possible all while as accurate to the movie as possible. I found a muscle super hero child costume and painted over it with spray paint to look like the Predators skin. I used an old bicycle helmet for the mask, a paper plate for the top of the head on the mask, then I used cardboard to fill in the face and then covered it with craft foam. I used rope wrapped in electrical tape for the dead locks and then gold duct tape to make the gold rings on the hair. I used an old silver flashlight and colored the glass red and then used electrical tape to make it look like his 3 lasers on the mask. The flashlight clips on with velcro so you can easily change the batteries. I used a Knight's shield from the dollar store along with lots of cardboard & tape to make the armour. I used an old cheap toy gun for the shoulder gun on the armour. I used a couple layers of spray paint, grey, metallic and black to make the card board look like metal. I also painted and old black belt brown for the belt pieces on the chest. I also used Knight's cuffs from the dollar store for the predators arm pieces and used foam to cut out the knife pieces. I used knees pads with cardboard for the shin pieces. I used tan gloves for the hands, I painted them to match the skin and then I used the end of black, plastic silverware from the dollar store for the long nails. I also painted socks to look like skin and used the silverware ends on there for the toenails then I put him in sandals that I added cardboard armour too so it looked like he had those Predator feet. I used dollar store bone pieces to make the necklaces and also cherrios to put in between the bone pieces. I used a long stick with a dollar store skull on top as a prop for him to hold. And I used a cheap brown towel as the lion cloth and then I used 2 pairs of fish net panty hose to put over the top of his skin.
This was a labor of love, I make my children's costumes every year. Everything is put together with love, screws, duct tape, electrical tape, and hot glue. I made the whole costume for under $25.
