Pretty Peacock Costume

My name is Jacquelyn, and this year for my costume I choose to be a peacock. I have always been fascinated with the natural colors of a peacock. When designing my costume I took inspiration from the styles and accessories from broadway, ballet, and showgirl costumes. I began by attaching natural peacock feathers to a corset. I then used rooster feathers to make the skirt using both black and green to add depth. When designing the tail, it was important to create a wispy but full effect using 36" long real peacock feathers. I attached the tail to the corset using an inflatable bladder, which allowed me to stiffen or loosen the assembly for more or less motion. I also made my own necklace with remaining rooster feathers and jewels so that I would have an appropriate statement piece. I accentuated the look by wearing long feather lashes, with a slight purple hue to bring a bird like quality to my face.

This costume was a fun way to bring my passion for fashion, colors, and texture to life. It was easy to wear, and was showcased on the Michael and Kelly Show.
