Ragnar and Lagertha Lothbrok Costume

We love The Vikings on The History Channel! I made Ragnar's vest and boots. The vest took over a week to design, cut, hand sew and insert 74 eyelets.

I could not find a chainmail skirt or shoulder armor for Lagertha, so I got a 17# replica chainmail shirt to take apart. My advice there is have two pairs of needle nose pliers, and a way to lay it out as even as you can to mark the links you want to open with a sharpie. Then have copious amounts of patience, this little bit took me two days to harvest off shirt! One guy suggested using a mannequin, if I had one, it would have helped a lot.

We lucked out finding a great hair designer in our daughter in law, she did both hair do s.

We procured the rest of our items, even Athelstans cross over weeks of searching for the best matches we could find to their clothes. For Lagertha, I used a steampunk corset and edgy Viking books with a four inch spiked heel for fun.

These costumes were in the planning since June. We had do lists leading up to yesterday including tattoos for Ragnar, hair color, beard, eyebrows, blood splats on him and weapons, and my hair. It's been fun!
