Rumplestiltskin Costume

My son Kayden in his Rumplestiltskin costume from the show "Once Upon A Time". My family and I enjoy the show so much that I decided to challenged myself to make our 4 year old Rumple for Halloween. I made the outfit myself.The ruffled shirt was purchased as a small woman's pirate shirt, I cut the ruffles off the bottom and sewed them into the collar to create a "scarf" look.The vest was made from a snake print gold fabric, I created my own pattern using one of my sons other store bought vests as a guide. I then punched eyelets into the vest for the ribbon to tie through. The jacket was made from faux leather from the fabric store. I used the pattern I created for the vest as a general guide to create the pattern for the jacket by adding length and a rounded design to the front. The snake skin collar I made in 4 different parts. I sketched each part out on paper before creating a pattern that I liked. I painted the underside of the snake skin fabric to match(it was white and visible). Using a paint brush and paper towels I buffed black paint onto the outer edges of the snake skin to give it the "burnt" effect. The pants are also made from faux leather from the fabric store and I used a pair of my sons jeans to create a pattern. The tie up leather "boots" are actually dress shoes and some faux black leather with eyelets and show laces tied around his legs. The wig is a Thor wig I cut to match Rumples hair cut and then dyed with watered down paint to give it a dirty look. His makeup is a mix of stuff including highlighters to make his face shine plus green paint underneath it all.
