A word from Catherine, the 'Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas' costume creator:

This is my daughter. She is 7 and she really wanted to be Sally this year. She didn't like the bright colors used to make the store bought costumes, so she asked me to make one with the more muted color scheme from the movie. First I made a tank dress as a base using muslin. Then I just drew the patchwork outline as a guide on the muslin. I then took all the different colored fabric, traced cut and pieced it all together. I attached the patches using heat bond. All the patterns were hand drawn using a fabric pen. Lastly, I used embroidery floss to add the faux stitching on all the seams. I purchased the wig. Unfortunately I couldn't find a dark auburn in a child's size, so the bright red had to make do. I just used store bought creme makeup and blended it for the blue-gray skin color. For the face sitching, I used liquid eyeline.

How did you add the sleeves? Love this!

#3 comment by catherine September 1, 2016

The sleeves were added the way any sleeves are added to a tank style dress. Pin together with right sides facing and sew 1/4 in seam

This is awesome! Do you have a picture of the back of the dress?

#5 comment by Jenelle August 24, 2017

Any chance you'd be willing to sell this dress?

#6 comment by Jenna September 21, 2017

I know this post is old but this is exactly what I'm looking for for my daughter, do you sell or make these?? Thanks so much!

Jenna, I have only made and sold 1 - it is very time consuming and detailed so the cost would be around $100 plus shipping, depending on the size needed. If it is for an older child or adult, I would need more material, so there would be an additional charge.
To Jenelle - I would not sell my daughter's she wants to keep it.

Hi! I'm wondering what you used to color her skin?!

#9 comment by Henny October 23, 2021

What kind of face paint you use ?

#10 comment by Rose October 24, 2021

Hi, what did you use to paint her skin? It looks amazing! Thank you.

I used a combo of blue white and gray face paint. The blue was a high end brand called Mehron. The white and gray were just bought at walmert...the ones in the tube
