A word from Courtney, the 'Scarecrow' costume creator:
My 15 month old son Conner is wearing the costume. I actually got the idea to make the costume from my mother. My mother is a really creative person. The scarecrow hat is made out of fleece. I measured my sons head which was 18 inches I cut four triangles at 22 inches by 9 inches this allowed for the seem being taken up. I sewed the four triangles together with right sides together. I cut out a circle at 22 inches wide and placed the top of the hat that was already sewn on the center. I traced the base of the hat onto the 22 inch circle. then cut that out. I sewed the base of the hat to the circle that i had cut out this made the brim. I had to trim the brim slightly because it was a little long for my sons head. I sewed a patch and sunflower to the hat. My sons shirt was made from plaid material. I had a pair of cordouroy overals and i sewed some patches on them. I used yarn instead of the traditional raffia i thought it would be too itchy for my son. I used to yarn to look like hay. My son had a pair of John Deere boots he wore and I painted his face with brown face paint. I also made a post that went behind him that i placed a crow on. Whats a scarecrow without a post & a crow. This costume turned out really cute. And my son looked adorable in it. I had many compliments on it and everyone thought it was a great homeade costume!!
