A word from Jeanette, the 'Scaring up Steampunk' costume creator:
I created this costume for my eleven year old son. It is mostly constructed from old hardware castoffs I had salvaged from our local Habitat for Humanity Restore. For example, the backpack breathing apparatus was created from an old foot pump, a painting mask, plumbing parts, and fuses. His airship was created from plastic party-ware I had purchased at our local Dollartree. The clothing was found at our local Goodwill. Both of his guns were originally plastic nerf guns. I transformed them with found hardware pieces and a four part painting process. The process involved a layer of copper spray paint, another layer of deep bronze paint, then rush application of a light gold, and another brush application of a mixture of emerald green and white paint (which was wiped with s paper towel to give it the worn copper look). His hat and giggles were originally storebought costume pieces and were the inspiration for this costume. However, I upgraded both wth found objects and paint. The decorations on his shoes are hand sewn and glued into place. Thank you for your time and consideration!
