This homemade costume for women entered our 2016 Halloween Costume Contest.
A word from Shannon, the 'Sea Sorceress' costume creator:
I made this costume with all kinds of stuff! The foundation is clothing I already owned (like my ocean-print leggings), then I used scarves and jewelry I also owned to enhance it.
I created the fishing net shawl by painting, drilling, glueing, and sewing on shells, driftwood, seaweed, flotsam and jetsam, and my trusty crab familiar who perches in my shoulder, just below the painted shell epaulettes.
The staff is made from driftwood, hemp cording, and a shell I had, embellished with stones and various nautical charms and seaweed.
The crown was made by wiring netting, seaweed, shells, and a small model of a pirate ship that I constructed to a headband.
I also made the shell headpiece and embellished the shoes with some extra materials.
The (crazy) hair is my own, the makeup I did with a combination of theatrical face paint, glitter, and my daily cosmetics, using the fishnet stocking technique to create the scale effect on my cheeks and forehead.
