This homemade costume for kids entered our 2017 Halloween Costume Contest.

A word from Michelle, the 'Spaghetti and Meatballs' costume creator:

Bella, age 3, is wearing a homemade spaghetti and meatballs costume. When Bella’s mommy asked her what she wanted to be for Halloween, she was expecting a typical answer such as princess, witch, cat. But no, Bella answered ‘spaghetti and meatballs’. Unfortunately, they don’t sell this is any stores so mommy was on a mission! I took a plain white tee shirt and skirt and covered it with thick cream colored yarn. I made sure to overlap the pieces so it was nice and thick. The meatballs were brown Pom poms that were hot glued on. Bella’s hat needed to be a show stopper. I made a giant meatball from a styrofoam ball which I painted brown. They I tied some spaghetti around a plastic silver fork and stuck it in. That completed the outfit! Our entire neighborhood was going crazy over her costume. Mom and dad had to join in the theme but didn’t want to take any attention away from the ‘main course’, so a simple red tee shirt with the words ‘marinara’ and ‘sauce’ were added. They were taking pictures of her just like paparazzi! The total cost for the costume was about $15!

I really would like to know how you attached the yarn to the T-shirt and how many skeins of yarn did you use?!?
Thank you!!

Same question as Tina.. How did you attach the yarn to the t-shirt??

#14 comment by Michelle August 28, 2021

I used hot glue to attach the yarn to the tee and shorts

Excellent! The crowning glory is... well, the Crown. Worthy of a New Pixar Script. What would the title be? At least, we already have the princess...

I salute the designer-parents. The costume is wonderful, and the photographs, too!
