This homemade costume for boys entered our 2018 Halloween Costume Contest.
A word from Rachelle, the 'Star Wars Porg' costume creator:
My 9-year-old son, Caleb, is wearing the costume because he's been obsessed with Porgs since watching "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" last year. I have loved making costumes for my two sons for years now--I learned how to sew in a costume class that I took back in college for my theatre degree. I must admit, not much sewing involved with this as much as hot glue. I constructed the Porg out of styrofoam, pillow stuffing, egg-crate foam, various other packaging materials, duck tape and fabric.
I start with the head when constructing the costume and the rest follows. His Porg feet are old tennis shoes that I converted with more hot glue, foam, cardboard and fabric. His legs and feet were defined with acrylic paint on some orange fabric. I would love to tell you that I had a fan built into his costume to keep him from heat-stroke with all that fake-fur...but alas...we will have plenty of water breaks on October 31st--why? Because we live in Houston where the two seasons are August and summer.
Thank you so much for the opportunity to enter the contest, and for taking the time to review our entry!
