A word from Danielle, the 'Steam-powered Girl and her Creator' costume creator:

Me - Danielle and my boyfriend - Marco.
I wanted to create a Steampunk look this year with some makeup SFX, while keeping it more pretty than gory. I make jewelry and work with a lot of watch movements and clocks and am amazed at the inner workings of these things. Complicated and interesting, much like the human body. I decided to go with "What makes me tick" as my sort of theme and to create a steam-powered person. My boyfriend is the "creator" and I am his AI creation.

I created the facial prosthetics by pressing gears and cogs into clay to get the imprints, then layering 6 coats of liquid latex onto this mold. When it was dry I painted the appliance using my Ben Nye bruise wheel and metallic mica powders, and sealed it with Kryolan Crystal Clear. I applied it with liquid latex and then layered latex and toilet paper around the edges to create the 'torn skin' effect, I added more color, finishing details and some fake blood. For my boyfriend's goggles I had painted and embellished some old swimming goggles, while my goggles were some plain costume goggles-also painted and embellished using gears, filigree, clock hands and painted rhinestones for 'rivets'. My jewelry is handmade by me as well. The large gears on my boyfriend's hat and lapel I cut from foam sheets and painted. While out outfits are not handmade, they were pieced together from clothing from our closets and my dad's. My dress is one I had previously bought from Lip Service.
I had also created a tesla-gun using a child's toy gun from Dollar Tree-painted and embellished.
I hope you enjoy this costume and much as I enjoyed creating it.
