A word from Heather, the 'Steampunk Medusa' costume creator:

This is my originally designed Steam Punk Medusa costume . I’ve wanted to be Medusa but have not been able to find one online I liked . So I set out to design my original one . I used a red wig and metal head piece . I hand painted over 25 rubber snakes of various sizes . I weaved them through the metal head piece and pulled the wig though . I attached the snakes using 10 gauge wire . I chose a red wig because I have not seen any red head Medusa’s and I wanted to be original . I think the red wig makes her really pop ! I went with a steam punk look because I once saw Painting of Medusa that looked that style and loved it . I got a corset and a high low steam punk skirt . I paired that with lizard skin leggings . I hand painted my body and face to complete the look , going for a snake / lizard effect . I hope you like my Medusa as much as I do !! Enjoy designing your own !!

Hi this costume is just fabulous! My favourite part is the hair.... I'm wondering what type of metal headpiece did you use for this?

Hi there !
Yes the headpiece is my favorite part also ! I used a strong wire soldered headband that came across the top and back of my head as a frame . I had strong wire attachments , about 6 attached to the top to form the structure . I hand painted probably 20 snakes and I attached them with more wire wrapped around the frame . I then put the finished snake head piece on top of the wig and fished pieces of the hair from the wig and attached the hair as well to the structure so that it blended as natural as possible . The head piece wig took hours to complete but I was very happy with the result . You need a study frame as your starting point .

Wonderful costume! Can you tell me what body paint & colour You used for this? Thank you!

Hi there !!

I use a mixture of colors to obtain that final color . I use diamond FX face paint as a base in a mix of green , brown and black , but I do my shading and highlights with eye shadow pallets .Using the eyeshadow for shading is really what makes it pop . You want to make sure you purchase a high pigment eye shadow . For fine lines I use NYX liquid liners in black and white . Again you get a much better color and line . Let me know if you have any other questions !

Would you by any chance have a picture of the wired headpiece That you made/used without the attached wig, just to get a picture in my head. (To see how it works)

And lastly where did you purchase the long red wig? It's perfect! Such a great Medusa look!

I am looking for pictures . I know I have a few somewhere so I can show you how I did this .

Here is the link to the wig . It's a “ Cala “ wig . I went with a red because I haven't really seen Medusa's done the way I did her .I thought red was cool and different . I added to the wig as well , which I do for most of my costume wigs .
