A word from Marinelle, the 'Sweet Cupcake' costume creator:
My daughter is wearing the costume. It was her idea to be a cupcake, as well as creating the how to instructions. I bought a lampshade from the Salvation Army, spray painted it with metallic silver, removed the metal bars inside that connects to an actual base of a lamp. Let dry. Turn it upside down and with safety pins, pin two wide elastic bands as straps. Make the chocolate cake part using a swimming noodle and an old brown throw blanket. Cut the blanket enough to cover a swimming noodle and sew lengthwise. Turn inside out and run the noodle through to cover. Over lap ends with the cloth and glue so that you have a large donut. Turn lampshade upside down with the large hole on top. Glue the donut on the rim of the shade. With a large felt fabric, fold in half and sew lengthwise. Scrunch it up to look like frosting and slip stitch two areas to hold on the shoulder so your arms can hangout. Slip stitch random areas in the front and back to hold some non-uniformed rolls to look like a fluffy frosting. Cut 2 inch circles from different colored felt or fabric and slip stitch randoml on the frosting to look like confetti sprinkles. Cut four crescent pieces of red fabric and sew the edges together to creat a ball. Stuff with batting and place a wired branch to look like an oversized cherry. Hot glue gun the bottom of the cherry to a thin headband. Put on the costume and WaLa! You're a sweet cupcake with a cherry on top!
