A word from Emily, the 'Teletubbies and the Baby Sun' costume creator:
Costume idea: one evening I had dinner with my friends. Afterwards as we walked to our cars, I noticed that each of us had a different colored windbreaker on- red, yellow, and purple. I compared us to the Teletubbies, and we had a good laugh about it. Fast forward several months. I had adopted my rescue dog, Tiny, and my friends and I talked about costume ideas for Halloween. I suggested, inspired by our windbreaker, that we be the Teletubbies, and my dog could be the baby sun. When I was 4 I dressed up as a Teletubbie for Halloween, so I thought it wpuld be funny to bring up this blast from the past. I'm lucky to say that my friends are goofy enough that they agreed!
I made all the costumes. I put silver fabric on the bellies of the shirts for the tummy TV screens, and sewed tulle to the bottom of each shirt. Each of us wore color coordinating tights, and shorts over the tights. The head pieces were made out of headbands, coat hangers that I cut and bent, glue, pipecleaners, and wrapped with tulle. I made small fabric ears to hand sew onto each headband (the Teletubbies have ears that stick out).
Tiny's costume (Baby Sun). I honestly eyeballed his yellow shirt for the costume, based on sweaters of his from around the house. I simply used yellow fleece because Tiny likes soft fabric. :) I always leave a small hole on the back so he can wear his harness under the costume, and the leash runs through the hole. for the sun points, I started by cutting out triangles, piecing them together, and making them stiff by putting piping in the edges. Then I had a strip of fabric that acted as the collar, bringing all the triangles together. I put elastic in the collar of his sun, sewed it closed, and his costume was complete! I always love making costumes where I'm not sure what to expect. I wish I had made his sweater for this costume bigger. It was a little snug for him.
Overall, this costume was memorable, amd a lot of fun!
