A word from Natalie, the 'The Magician's Act Gone Bad' costume creator:
This was the second illusion costume I have ever made. I revamped my initial "captured mermaid" costume and changed the dummy outfit and features. I then had to create a girl that was sawed in half illusion by filling the torso portion of the dress with air packets and tulle. This brought my stomach forward to make me look cut in half. I then created a fake pair of legs by stuffing nylons with polyfill. Then on the top of the waist I used spray insulation foam to create guts and intestines and painted them. I draped pieces of shredded red fabric under the torso to make it seem like intestines were hanging out as well. This costume came out great for the limited time I had to make it (2 weeks). Luckily I had a dummy to already work with from a previous costume. Total for this one cost about $120 to make. I really took some people off guard by not having legs on my lady half and dragging them behind me!
