The Mind Flayers Costume

My wife and I decided to go with an original but heavily HP Lovecraft influenced pair of creatures. We created these 100% from scratch at home with our own hands. The masks are primarily paper clay with foam rubber pipe insulation for the tentacles, and a ton of different acrylic paints. The suckers on the tentacles are cheerios which were hot glued and then painted over heavily. The eyes are made of translucent ping pong balls and backlit with individual LEDs. Our actual eye holes were below the eyes in the "nostril" region. The robe hoods and sleeves are lit by color changing RGB LED strips that we attached and wired up. Everything was powered by 10,000 mAH USB phone charger banks that let us stay lit up all night and then some. Not shown in the photos are our cleverly hidden drinking straws in the center tentacles which allowed us to covertly consume a few beverages without unmasking. The overall cost of materials was very low, I'd say under $50, since we used a lot of things we had on hand already.
