A word from Courtney, the 'The Old Crone' costume creator:
THE OLD CRONE
A crone is an elderly female figure that appears in folklore. She may be portrayed as unpleasant, malevolent, or evil in manner, and she often has magical or supernatural ties that may make her either helpful or obstructive in nature.
Skin Makeup:
I used several layers of makeup to create an aged effect. Green concealer mixed with a light foundation was used to give a near colorless complexion. Then a cool-toned greige (grey beige) eye shadow was used to create furrows, sags, wrinkles, and to add various emphasis to areas such as the cheeks, mouth, and nose. Brown pencils were used to create added definition to the wrinkles. Blue and green pencils were used to add veins to portray thinning skin. A a couple layers of mattifying setting powder were added to emphasize skin texture and remove any resemblance to "glowing" skin.
Eyes:
Wearing white mesh lens in right eye and purple galaxy circle lens in left eye. Darker cool-toned pink and berry colors were added first to add a little life back into the skin. Contouring greige color was used to re-emphasis shadows for sagging effect. Finished off with medium/dark cool-toned grey and black. No mascara. Blue pencil was used towards the outer waterline.
Teeth:
Kryolan black tooth enamel was used to black out teeth.
Garments:
Everything was thrifted, DIY'd, or my own personal garments.
A heavily layered white lace bustle skirt was worn underneath everything to add mass. Placed atop, was a long, black, high-neck, maxi dress. A vintage oversized green wool cardigan was over that. Over that was a handmade black wizard robe.
Footwear and Accessories:
Boots are the Frye Melissa tall lace-up boots in Cognac. Fingerless black lace gloves, resin raven skull necklace, handmade moon phases necklace, handmade black/silver rosary, and long obsidian pendant necklace.
Staff:
The staff is made from a walking stick I foraged on a hike. The antler was secured to the top by binding it with thick matte ribbon and then adding several layers of shredded ribbon to create a tattered tassel effect. Faux twigs and black roses were used to finish it off.
