A word from Litzy, the 'The Shakey Washing Machine' costume creator:
Lia, the Shakey Washing Machine, stole the hearts and laundry of everyone. My name is Litzy and I had the pleasure of creating the washing machine costume with my six-year-old sister, Lia. First, I took apart her toy washing machine/kitchen. When she got home from school, Lia noticed and immediately went to go inspect her toy washing machine and got upset. I proceeded to tell her that once the Halloween season was over, I could happily put it back together. Her reaction was hilarious! For the base of the washing machine, we used some white-foam posters. Additionally, we added some ultra-violet lights, doll clothes, and a tiny bubble machine to give a more realistic illusion of a working washing machine. However, what stole the show was her immaculate acting skills. She decided that shaking her body in a circular motion would be the perfect addition to her costume. Everyone loved her spontaneous movements! The host of a local Halloween costume contest copied her dance and joined in with her. The hardest part about this whole spooky journey was probably the participation in contests. Lia enjoys competing in local Halloween costume contests, however, she always has a very low chance of winning because the winner is selected by audience applause. All the other contestants typically bring an abundant amount of family members, which sadly gives Lia a very low chance of actually winning. I try to cheer her on as loud as I can, to the point that I almost lose my voice, but I can’t beat a family of 6. Luckily, the aforementioned host decided to change the rules after she noticed that not a lot of people were cheering for Lia because they were cheering for their kids. She explicitly stated that the Shakey Washing Machine deserved the trophy because of her fun movements and costume design. My sister was the happiest and loved the feeling. There were lots of laughs, encouraging comments, and pictures taken by walking by-passers. Some nice gentleman even gave her five dollars because he loved her costume so much. Seeing the smile on my sister's face was the best part for me. I’m thankful that everyone was able to see the spontaneous and bright little girl that I see every day. It is definitely a Halloween to remember! Happy Halloween to everyone!
