A word from Adrienne, the 'The Simpsons' costume creator:
Here is my DIY homemade family costumes, The Simpsons! Our entire outfits and shoes have come from local thrift stores and I have hand created almost everything else.
I made the eyes from by cutting/drilling holes out of Styrofoam balls, then hot glued onto a pair of sunglasses from the Dollar Store. They were a little heavy to stay on our faces so I bought sunglass straps to tighten them also from the dollar store. I created the noses by cutting the fingers out of rubber gloves and stuffing them with a cut sponge and hot glued them to the eyes. I created the mouth & lips out of painters masks that I cut up and painted and then used liquid latex to adhere to our faces.
I made Lisa’s hair out of doll size party hats that I painted yellow and super glued to the top of the uni-tard, Barts hair we cut a bill off a ballcap and glued cardboard I cut out to resemble his hair and put it under the uni-tard. Marge’s hair is made out of a blue egg crate. I used pipe cleaners for the eye lashes and Homers hair. I bought a $5 skateboard and painted it to match Bart’s and a toy saxophone I spray painted gold. I also made a homemade slingshot out of a cut branch, twine, and a piece of cardboard. All outfits and shoes are from Goodwill, Barts shorts were Jr. size skinny jeans I cut into shorts, Lisa’s dress was cut as well, Marge’s dress was a tank top night gown cut into a tube dress. I painted Barts shoes to match his outfit, and bought a Maggie stuffed doll and randomly found a can of Duff at a local store!
